- tonymullExplorerThat is way too early! Even Alaskans don't venture out of Anchorage till Memorial Day Weekend...good luck finding a campsite that weekend, but the way. June in Alaska will look like April in Michigan. Best to be in Alaska in July, August and early Sept.
- traveylinExplorerBe sure the other summer commitments won't impact on the length of time you have identified for your Alaska trip of a life time. 2.5 to 3 months is easily utilized, There is a buch to do. Don't commitment to driving every day.

If so, then you may wish to consider adding Dawson City to your travels. Rather than backtrack from Chicken to White River for the night, consider carrying on to Dawson City, then to Whitehorse from there and continue your journey as planned.
Yes Our canceled tour was with this group. Got to thinking that months ago we had already posted online our plans with this company.
They offered another caravan with space that unfortunately won't work with our other summer commitments.
Will look at the Dawson City stop. I had noticed earlier that the route in Church's book goes thru Dawson City. Like our typical RV travels we might not decide until we get there. :) - Luke_PorterExplorerThat would be a little early for me---Brrrrrrr.
- loggenrockExplorerActually that's the best thing that ever happened to you! :)
Have a great trip! Get the Milepost and Mike and Terry Church's book on RVing and Camping in AK. You'll be solo with several hundred other fellow traveler's for the summer! ST - NewallaBusExplorerNever considered a caravan for us, too much fun to do what and when we want to. Too many years at work to ever travel on someone's schedule. Besides wife says no, might get stuck next to a gorf (grumpy old retired fart) the entire way up and back. Richard

Follow the tour route if you wish, not like there are many route choices, but avoid some of the full service CGs they probably use & strike out on your own. The Canadian Provincial Parks & Yukon Government CG are the best. Alaska has some really nice SPs too. - bee_46ExplorerThere are pluses to both going with a caravan and going on your own. However by going on your own you have the freedom of leaving a location you may not enjoy before you are scheduled to leave or staying longer at a spot you would like to see more of. We found that on our two driving trips to Alaska that we often extended our stay at a location because we enjoyed where we were. Homer and Valdez were two such locations.
Take you caravan itinerary as a guide to the "must sees", shape it to your own likes, buy a Tour Saver book to save money on some of the tours, and enjoy your trip. - pugslyyyExplorerSometimes it is fun to do a group trip for the companionship along the way, but you'll do fine on your own.
