I've taken a shotgun into and through (going to Alaska) three times - way off of paved roads - with not a hint of trouble. I have needed it zero times.
But I still would not go into Canada without the shotgun.

I went to the site you mentioned here but found nothing about protection from animals. It looks like you can bring a gun for hunting or competition and that's it. Please correct me if I am wrong.
