I do not agree with the comments here that basically state… "I had no problems that required a firearm, therefore you won't need one either." Only YOU can decide if YOU want to have a firearm on your trip to Alaska.
I have been charged by a brown bear. I was a nanosecond from firing at the bear when he veered off his charge, about 20' away from me. One of the most frightening things that has happened to me, for sure!
I would suggest, if you want a firearm, to ship one to a gun store in Tok Alaska and pick it up on your way thru. Another option is to buy one here in Alaska and either sell it before you leave or ship it back home.
Obviously I hope you have no need whatsoever for a gun, and the odds are great that you will not need one.
