Almost forgot

I was reading all the posts about people coming north (and some not making it). It got me to thinking about our trip to Maine on Sunday. Suddenly it popped into my head that we hadn't dug out our passports. That would have been a long road trip for nothing.

I had all our other paperwork put together but forgot the most important document.

Thanks Canada forum!

We use Nexus cards, they were $50 for five years.
  • Instead of a passport ever consider a passport card (good for everything except flying), good for 10 years and costs less than a passport...
  • The passport doesn't cost $$$ to produce but you end up paying for the services of Foreign Affairs. That's even if you don't use them while abroad.

If you get into trouble in a foreign country they are there to help you for free based on the money they collect from passports.

Having said that, Harper has just gotten rid of Passport Canada - all passports are to be processed by Service Canada who hasn't been given any more funding or employees.
  • Just got under the wire and received new 5 yr 2 weeks ago $87.00 Despite TV adds saying the new style was only available after July 1 it was the fancy picture, hologram chipped model. Prices have gone up because it now takes the longer to process them and we must pay secure storage fees while gov't employees on coffee, holidays etc. Also have to pay for 30% increase in gov.t size since slimmer gov't rules came into effect.
  • Why should a bloody passport have to cost $187.00 is beyond me, its just a card like any other bloody credit card or license, oh I forgot about those goverment trough's we have to keep filled???

    10yr. ones are available now...$187.00
    5yr. now $120.00

  • Glad you remembered in time! (And sorry that they're now required. I sure liked the good ol' days when we didn't need more than a driver's license between the U.S. & Canada.)
