Any Bear Precautions Needed in Ontario?

Always Make sure that you have someone that runs slower than you with you:B
Other than that bear spray is always handy to have.

I worked at a fishing camp for a few summers and when I'd be out picking blueberries, I'd leave the truck radio on, volume high. This way they know that there are humans present.

This one time I was picking down from the truck and saw paws moving, as I could see under the truck so I eased on over in a semi-circle to see what was going on and you'll never believe this, but there were three cubs line dancing to the Boot Skootin' Boogie.

And don't share your BBQ meat with it, even if you have been drinking.

A comment regarding Darwin's theory might be appropriate here.

The park will give you information on any bear issues that they may be dealing with - and also advise you on what practices you can take while camping there.

The basic rules are to keep your campsite clean and store food inside your car or hard-sided trailer.

I found that if you leave your half eatin hotdog about a mile from camp, the bear shouldn't bother you, that if you leave cyenye pepper where you threw the the dog away, LOL

There really isn't much of a bear problem at either Grundy or Six Mile. Just use common sense - don't leave coolers outside, don't throw food into your firepit. Take your garbage to the dumpster every evening.

Rare to see bears in those parks and if so they are small, timid and scare easily. We've never had a problem with keeping food in the TT. Just get rid of your garbage every night and keep the site clean, more because of the racoons than anything else.

Most of the bears I've seen in Ontario were at the dump, so my advice is to stay out of dumps!

Seriously, use your head when storing and openly using foods and remember should an encounter occur, distance is your friend. Speak, move slowly backwards, and try NOT to look the animal directly in the eyes as this is recieved as a challenge. Safe travels.

In area's with black bears, I keep food in the camper (hard sided), but I make sure that the food smells are well contained and the garbage is taken out to the bear-proof containers each night.

If I had a tent camper or hybrid, would store my food in the car.
