BAJA BUS SAN JOSE AIRPORT TO CABO SL

I know this isn't RV related but flying into San Jose Del' and need to get to Villa Palmar in Cabos San Lucas. Can anyone advise where, which and roughly how much/long to get from airport to hotel and back?

Also would like to get a bus from hotel one day to visit La Playita (15 mins from San Jose town I believe?). Again any advice/links for public transport would be really appreciated

Thanks FTW.

  • Thanks again so very much qtla9111, MW and Almot. So if I'm understanding this correct as my hubby and daughter are landing in San Jose Del Cabo and need to get to Villa Del Palmar in Cabo San Lucas from there.

Come out at the airport of San Jose Del Cabo and it is obvious where to get a collectivo?
Take Collectivo to San Jose Del Cabo to catch bus to Cabo San Lucas (tell collectivo driver "parada de autobus para Cabo San Lucas"). Hopefully if bus gets off Puerto Praiso plaza (near Marina). Hotel they are staying at is Villa Del Palmar Cabo SL, which we believe is within a short walk from the Cabo SL Marina.

Have I got this right? Sorry if I seem a bit slow in this regards, just with me not being there, I want to make sure I give them clear instructions ;)

In Cancun they at least HAVE airport bus. In Cabo you have to use colectivos or taxi.

Colectivo to Cabo center and then a bus to San Jose should cost less - probably twice less - than direct colectivo from airport to San Jose. Though in SJ you might have to hire a colectivo or taxi again to get to the hotel, can't say, have never been to that town. Any bus in Mexico will drop you off ANYWHERE if there is a place to pull off the road. You can also flag it down almost anywhere - and you must, or he won't stop.

There was a stop for Cabo-Jose buses at Puerto Paraiso plaza near Cabo marina, but I haven't been in Cabo for long time.
And a terminal - "camionera" - for long-distance bus that goes to San Jose and to many other places, about half-way between airport and Paraiso Plaza. Just tell colectivo driver that you need "parada de autobus para San Jose del Cabo".

    Relax.
  • Meet the sindicado...

    The taxista union...

No buses from the airport to CSL nor SJdeC.

On-the-fly taxi charge to SJdC is roughly twenty dollars

And few taxiistas want to miss out on their share of short hop fares -- so a direct from airport to Cabo San Lucas ride is scarce and if you find one once the driver announces the fare you will opt for the airport to SJdC shuttle.

Many of the announced "specials" are pre-paid reservations.

Most of big-tourist Mexico is this way - Can'tCun, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Zihuatanejo.

Last time I got a ride from Manzanillo to Barra de Navidad the fare was $27.00 dollars.

Van collectivos offer luggage capacity over urban transit buses. It's all big business at the airports so there is little guesswork involved.

In SJdC, the taxi driver told me it was an "infraccion" for him to drop me off at the highway junction from Mex 1 to the airport.

To me it's not worth hassling an alternative of getting from the airport to a shuttle point. I've never encountered a shortage of airport taxis.

    Hope This Helps

There are always collectivos in big airports - like that Transcabo. I didn't want to mention them, because they are not a bus, cost more than a bus and work differently from a bus. It's a van, like a big taxi, and parked (usually) in the same area or next to taxi. You go past pushers that are yelling "taxi, taxi" - or tell them "quizas, un collectivo" and they will leave you alone, because they want to sell you exactly a "taxi", not collectivo.

Collelctivo leaves when it's full, so you might have to wait. Or he will try to jack the price up, because there are fewer passengers, and you - as a group - can negotiate. I would say, in Mexican culture you not "can" but "should", this is normal and expected.

You might consider taking a collectivo to downtown bus station, and then a real "bus" from there. Between these 2 towns there is at least one bus every 60 minutes.

Roughly 30 minutes from San Jose to Cabo. Can't say whether there are any buses directly from airport though.
