BC Hwy 99 Camping?

I'm thinking about traveling Hwy 99 (Sea to Sun Road?) in September but I'm not finding many campgrounds along the way. Are there any that will take a 30' Class C towing a Subaru? Should I be thinking about a different route?

Subscribing to this thread with interest... we're taking 99/1 from Vancouver to Revelstoke in about 10 days and looking to boondock in our truck camper as much as possible. Porteau Cove was full for our dates (not that that's boondocking haha).

We also have no idea which way to return to Montana from Revelstoke for max scenery/lake/river/paddleboard time. So many options! Can't wait.

You can probably get away with dry camping overnight in the parking lot to Britania mines near prteau cove
  • B C has some beautiful provincial parks, but they are generally expensive by U.S. state park standards. $25-$30/night without hookups, and often without dumps, is common (of course, that is in Canadian dollars so is ~25% cheaper for us). Maybe your friend in Oliver has space in his vineyard for you to dry camp for a few days while you explore the Okanagan.

One great place for paddleboarding might be the southern end of Skaha Lake at Christie Memorial Provincial Park in Okanagan Falls. It is a small scenic, tree-shaded park with a beach within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

I would return from Revelstoke to Montana via the Okanagan Valley. Also very popular with vacationing Canadians. so you may want reservations.

Thanks fanrgs I'll look into that. We know a winemaker in Oliver so that may be a good route indeed. Really hoping to boondock instead of RV Park it, but I'm still learning what's allowed/not allowed in Canada for that. I hear it's pretty laid back overall... river beds, provincial parks, forest service roads etc. etc. Thanks!

If it were me, I would return from Revelstoke to Montana via the Okanagan Valley. Beautiful lakes, parks and beaches galore for paddleboarding, hillsides covered with orchards and vineyards, great food and wine, and lots of campgrounds and RV parks. Also very popular with vacationing Canadians. so you may want reservations.

  • Thanks! I've been looking at taking 15 from Jasper to Kamloops and 99 from Kamloops to W Vancouver.
  • It is the Sea to Sky Highway and it is spectacular. As mentioned Porteau Cove is beautiful but very popular so it is hard to get in. I would definitely recommend reservations.

Eagle Vista RV Resort in Squamish is very nice and well maintained park.
  • I took that route with my fifth wheel last summer. Certainly a beast of a hill just outside of Pemberton, my 7.3 was in first gear both up and down for a few parts of it. I am 42 feet long and heavy.

It is a beautiful route, there really is lots of camping, but not many will take a larger rig. Seton Lake BC Hydro site is very popular and can be blistering hot too. We camped there once in 100F temps, the creek was so cold, it's glacier melt, we had to make a shallow rock pool so we could dip for a few seconds at a time.

Alice Lake is a BC Park and will take your rig just fine.
