Best East Coast Beaches

I am planning on a week to 10 day trip in the next month or so leaving from PA. What are the best RV friendly beach towns to visit on the east coast. I was thinking about possibly hitting Nashville or New Orleans, but I love to hear from other RVers on great places to travel to.

  • There are MANY east coast beaches that are highly recommended, but I am all in favor of the Gulf Coast beaches. The water is clearer, warmer and BLUE instead of GRAY! The water of the Atlantic beaches are just dirtier looking, but if that's where you want to go, here is my recommendations. We really like the Ocean City, MD/Rehobeth Beach, DE area; Assateague and Chincoteague Islands on the DELMARVA Peninsula are great with not as much traffic/touristy stuff; Sandbridge Beach, just south of Virginia Beach is marvelous; OBX in NC has some great beach towns and campgrounds. We are hitting Camp Hatteras this summer. On further south, Folly Beach in SC is really good; Edisto and Hunting Island are two of our favorites (see above comment about hurricane damage); Myrtle Beach is NOT even close to be a favorite. It is way too commercial; too many people and dirty looking water for me, but that's MY opinion. Jekyll Island, GA is quickly becoming one of our faves on the E coast and then on further down, there are many, many places in Florida.

We love the Gulf Shores, AL area and the water is a pretty turquoise and is clean. Destin is also another of our favorites, but it is beginning to get way too crowded for me now.

    Opinions here, so not haters.
  • Check out our little beach if you like a quiet family beach. Holden Beach NC. website is hbtownhall.com . We are about 30 miles N of MB SC but totally different. No high rises, traffic ( unless summer season ), etc. There are some nice places to eat, minature golf, homemade ice cream. Camping is not on the beach except a small pretty tight CG at the fishing pier. It has full hook ups and is usually not busy except summer season or holidays. There are a couple of CG's within 5 minute drive to the beach, one pretty new and modern one called Ocean Breeze.

Of course North of us in NC you have Emerald Island which was mentioned and the world famous Outer Banks. Both are very nice places to visit.

SC has better State parks I think near / on the beach. Check Them out.

    Happy travels
  • check out the beaches along DE and MD border... even northern VA...

I have not been to the Jersey shore since I started going about 1 hr farther south..
  • New Orleans is a fascinating place, but isn't really a beach town; it's more of a river city and port town, with it's own unique flavor.

St. Petersburg, FL has Fort DeSoto, with lovely beaches and camping on or near the gulf. It's probably best done if you have a toad or tow vehicle and don't need to drive an RV everywhere, assuming you want to do things other than waterfront activities. Reservations over the weekends for next month are probably non-existent at this point (or practically so), but it looks like some sites are available during weekdays.

There are lots and lots of other great options, of course, some of which have been mentioned already.
  • Not sure what you want to do in regards to beaches, but it’s hard to beat the beaches at the SC State Parks along our shore. Huntington Beach, Myrtle Beach, Edisto, and Hunting Island. (Listed in order of MY preference, Hunting used to be first until it got clobbered by two hurricanes) Huntington and Myrtle are close to good seafood, golf, touristy things
  • Nashville is not near a beach. Check out Emerald Isle, NC. Won't go into details except we went to Myrtle Beach, SC on a trip many years ago, stopped at Emerald Isle and now live here part time. (We are full-timers).
