Scituate MA is South East of Boston so going via 495 is kind of the long way around.

Not always. It adds quite a bit of mileage to the trip since Scituate is on the coast and 495 bows towards the west. There's major construction on 495 right now, which can slow the trip considerably. Many areas along the highway, although not visible, are very built up. Neither highway is fun at rush hour but your best bet is to stick to 95 as it's a much straighter shot.

Forget I95 as it is a busy highway through a heavily populated urban area.

I495 is the quickest but near the evening rush hour all four southbound lanes become a parking lot in and around Worchester.

Stick to I495 between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM or after 7:00 PM and it is not bad.

Yup, that's about the only way to avoid Boston but no guarantees on the stop and go, even if you avoid rush hours, due to construction.
