Best route from Lubbock, TX to Shelton, WA

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum, but I hope someone can help me with this. My husband and I are moving our 29 foot travel trailer from Lubbock, TX to Shelton, WA in mid November. My husband just got a job in Washington and we are hoping to be there by the first of December. We are planning on driving 200 miles a day, assuming everything goes well and we are hoping to avoid any icy/snow areas. Does anyone know what the best route would be?

  • Thanks TyroneandGladys! Can you send me the stops? Also, have you ever driven this route in November?
  • The most direct route according to Google is 1800 miles. However if you do not mind driving 2400 miles I would take I40 to LA then Highway 1 to San Francisco then the 101 the rest of the way. We take 7 days to drive from Banning CA to near Shelton. Our longest day is 246 miles. If you decide this way let me know and I will tell you our stops.
  • We looked at that route too, but what about driving through Oregon on I5? We saw some scary posts about driving through Oregon. We have an F250, but no snow chains. Is that something we should worry about? We are from Texas and not very familiar with driving through snowy or icy roads.
  • It is risky that time of year. I would head to I-5 as soon as possible. Pay very close attention to weather.
  • Google maps is suggesting Texas-NM-Utah-Idaho-Oregon-then I5 to Washington. Is that a risky route?
