- J_herbExplorerIf you change your mind and end up in Klamath Falls don't take the Dead Indian HWY or Hwy 66 to I5, take 140 to 62 than left to Medford and take 5 to Grants Pass.
With your setup go to Reno than 395 to Susanville Ca. 44 to 89 to I5 than north. Their is a pilot truck station in Weed Ca. take the south Weed exit, easy in and out. It's about 325 miles from Reno to Grants Pass. - JanssExplorer III've really enjoyed that route from Reno.
- gmc88ExplorerThe I80 to Reno route is the quickest. 395 44 89is quite scenic
- donkeydewExplorernv/or 140 is a great road, very scenic one decent that is less than a mile.
fill up in winnemucca only about 200 miles to lakeview - jman1725ExplorerI've been looking at I80 to Reno then 395-44-89-I5 has anyone done this route
- pauljExplorer IIThe recommended meander is on NV/OR 140, right? I haven't driven that across the border, but from what I seen on maps and other discussions there are 2 mild concerns:
- gas may be scarce, since there aren't towns of size between I80 and US395.
- there is grade down a rim near the border. West bound you will be going down, and on the inside lane. - jman1725ExplorerHaven't seen redwoods yet, this trip I was planning to stay over in Grants Pass and take a side trip there and the coast. After that heading thru Columbia River and on to Glacier NP

I recommend heading west on I-80 until you reach Winnemucca, Nevada. North on 95 and then meander to Lakeview, OR and Klamath Falls, OR. From there choose which route you want to complete your journey.
There can be strong winds on I-80 at times, but the road is great, as all are. You will be in desert/arid regions. Make sure you fuel up before heading out on some if the remote areas.
This, in my opinion, is some of the most beautiful, albeit remote, areas of the region. Watch for herds of wild horses & donkeys, as well as antelope.
Be safe!
This is a very good route. - JanssExplorer IIA couple years ago, we took Hwy 140 west from Klamath Falls to I-5. It was a very pleasant scenic drive.
