- aerbus32Explorer IIRetired out of Temecula. Currently building a place in Murrieta. 79 is the route I use in our 37'er towing a dinghy. Hemet has seen a dramatic rise in crime. I have not visited any of the RV parks. Pechanga is where we usually stay when in the area because it is very convenient to our medical services & our daughter. And offers lots of good cycling. It is a very nice park with some qualifications. First is that it tends to get rowdy on the weekends. And usually at capacity. Midweek is great. Largely vacant. Passport America for some sites. Its biggest concern for many is that if you don't book way in advance, you will likely be moving from site to site for extended stays. Lake Skinner offers a gorgeous facility, but is renowned for being party city for the locals on weekends. (We stayed midweek 3 years ago. Camp hosts shared with me their frustration at local law enforcement not allowing them to evict late night partiers.). Where we've been staying a lot lately is Champagne Lakes located between Temecula & Escondido. Where we haven't stayed yet, but have visited, is Rancho California RV resort. It is a facility where you own your own lot but rentals are available. The place is gorgeous! My concern with it is that there have been some very serious accidents on this stretch of highway 79. If you tend to stay at your rig, it is phenomenal. If you tend to explore the area, Champagne Lakes offers easy access to the Temecula & the San Diego areas.
- Second_ChanceExplorer IIWe have been at the Escapees' co-op park on 79 about 17 miles out of Temecula (past the Hemet turn-off) since mid-January. Large motorhomes and fifth wheels use 79 all the time for the two large RV resorts located where we are. The road is a good road - can get curvy every now and then. My only complaint is the people who don't like the speed limit piling up behind me. I pulled off several times to let them pass.

Beaumont south to Hemet on 79 is OK. If you drive through Hemet at 25 mph on to Pehchenga RV park in Temecula you won't miss a thing. Nothing in Hemet worth stopping for. As towns go, Hemet is a small run down high crime rate town. JMHO.
BTW I lived in So Ca for over 40 years. Hemet used to be a real nice little town in So Ca.
Do you recommend the Pehchenga RV park in Temecula over a RV park in Hemet ? Or what park would you recommend in Temecula as your first choice.?
Yes, we stayed there 2 years ago. Clanish people at the park. Sites are small and dirt. We were invaded with ants. Every one said spray for ants as soon as you park. Last year we stayed at Pehchenga. Concrete pads with lots of grass. Nice RV park. Temecula is nice area with wineries and good shopping. - Sloop_SmittenExplorerNever had an issue driving Hwy 79 up to I-10. Two laned but well maintained. Pechanga is a nice RV park adjacent to the casino and has a pool and convenience store next door. Casino provides a free tram to and from the casino, 24 hours a day.
Another option is Lake Skinner. It is close to the many wineries east of Temecula and is located on Hwy 79. Cheaper than Pechanga but they limit visits to 14 days. They stock lake Skinner with trout in the winter if you like to fish.
Might mix it up. Can't speak to the Hemet RV park but Hemet does not offer much from a recreational or entertainment perspective. Temecula has many venues that offer dining and entertainment and is about 15 minutes from either park. - rv2goExplorer II

I take that route with my MH without any problems. Do not see any reason for you not to take it.
On the map it looks like a 2 lane country road. Is that accurate Is there a better route to take?
I will be driving 79 next Tuesday. I will send you a PM about road conditions if you have not gotten to Hemet. - MarkTwainExplorer

Never drive the 79, but what's in hemet?
We were considering a 2 month stay in Feb. & March in the Golden Village Palms resort. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. - MarkTwainExplorer

I was considering spending 2 months(March and April) at the Golden Village Palms RV resort for some warmer weather. We live in the northern part of the state by the Oregon border. Have you ever stayed at this RV park? Do you recommend a better one? What kind of crime are you generally talking about? Thanks for the info. - MarkTwainExplorer
