Best way to choose diesel stop

Unless you are traveling the back roads it is fairly easy to hit the Flying J's, Pilots, Petro's, and Love's. I mean you can't drive 10 miles with out seeing a billboard telling you where the next exit is for one of those. Since we have the discount card for Flying j/Pilot that is where we always stop and never have a problem finding one. Or you can to on to their websites and pull up maps with their locations......I use the truck side pumps if I have to but prefer the RV pumps because they seem to have a lot less fuel spilled on the ground. Hate stepping out of my truck into diesel fuel......

We try to fuel at a Flying J/Pilot where we use a loyalty card to get a discount. Every one we have fueled at in the western USA had a RV lane with a smaller nozzle in the truck pump area. The flow rate is at the truck level and the tank is filled 4-5x as fast.

With the non-truck stop places we have to go inside to not have the pump shut off at $100 so no different from a truck stop most of the time. At the gas stations we often have to wait for a pump to open up that we can get to and fillup and not have to bakup to get out of the space. Motorists as a whole are so completely tuned out that they will often pull up in front and in back and wait for use to finish and when we do there is no place for us to go. No such problems in the truck lanes.

Heck, I have a pacific pride cardlock card and don't have to worry about any of t. You do have to pay your bill in full every month, but man, you ought to see some of the price differences. We got fuel in Eden Or last spring at the truck stop there that had a Pacific Pride lane and the marked price on all the pumps was $4.15 and when I got my invoice in the mail, I actually paid $3.81. Not too bad?

We use: Pilot, Flying J, Loves, TA, Petro truck stops. Sometimes we use the truck lanes but it' usually a hassle.

Pilot Flying J has a trip routing tool on their website that shows all their locations.

You can also find the location and look it up on www.googlemaps.com and use the satellite view. You can even do street view. Have used that many times.

I use google earth to scope out the lay of the land if I think I need to know.
works right well for fuel stations and campgrounds.

I believe that you have it backwards. The truck side in AZ is higher because the price includes the additional tax. If you fuel at a truck stop like FlyingJ in AZ, you will find that the pump price on the auto (RV) side is lower than posted on their big sign.

What is "illegal" per signs posted on the pump, is fueling a "commercial vehicle over 26K) on the auto side.

Arizona has a higher tax on heavy duty diesel than on the light truck diesel. You can still use the large commercial truck pumps then you have a choice to make. Go inside and wait in line and explain you used the large truck pump and the station by law must refund the tax difference (right now 8 cents/gal). Or you can just pay the extra tax and be on your way. As for it to be illegal the only thing illegal is for the large commercial trucks to use the light truck pumps.
In Arizona you will see prices posted as heavy diesel and light diesel. I had a friend who claimed his dodge got better MPG on the higher priced heavy diesel. The only difference in the two is the tax. At most stations the fuel for both comes from the same storage tank.

I usually fuel at flying j and Pilot . You can buy a little fuel/truck stop book at most truck stops, about $3.00 that shows every truck/fuel stop exit on all the interstates and secondary roads. Comes in handy at times.
