Blanding or Bluff

We stayed at Cadillac and it was just perfect for us - nothing fancy but good and good people. Visit the historic district in Bluff - VERY well done. Take time to watch the video - about 12 minutes I think. You learn a lot in a short period of time.

Bluff is closer to Monument Valley, Valley of the Gods and Gooseneck State Park. In addition to the attractions listed by others are:
Hovenweep National Monument,
Natural Bridges National Monument,
Bluff Fort,
South Fork of Mule Canyon,
Edge of the Cedars State Park,
Blanding Dinosaur Museum,
UT-261 (the Moki Dugway).

I vote as well for Blue Mountain in Blanding. Over the last ten years, I probably spent three months or better there. Still haven't hiked all the canyons. If you are a hikers look up Cedar Mesa just east of Blanding on the way to Natural Bridges. Amazing Anaszi cliff dwellings. Some are easy to get to and other are only for experienced canyon rats like us.

Don't miss Twin Rocks Trading Post and café in Bluff.

The maintenance guy, Gary, knows every nook and cranny in the area and will gladly help you with directions.

Ditto on the Edge of Cedars Museum. Well worth the admission fee.

we enjoyed our stay at cadilac ranch rv park in bluff. nice park with helpful staff. we visited all the place mentioned above with plenty of time to enjoy each and still be back early each day.

I also recommend Blue Mountain. Another location near Blanding that is well worth visiting is "House on Fire" in Mule Canyon. A hike through the canyon passes a number of Ruins. The most interesting for me was the first one on the trail - House on Fire. At the right time of day, (late morning) reflected light makes the rock above the ruin look like flames:



If you don't want to hike, a bit further west on UT95 there is a restored Kiva that doesn't require hiking.

We stayed in Blanding, at Blue Mountain RV Park, which had an open atmosphere, gravel I believe, and some trees. A fairly simple place but with clean restrooms and laundry, and it met our needs.

In Blanding, be sure to visit the Edge of the Cedars State Park museum and ruins out back. (No campground, the wonderful museum is basically the park.)
