Why don't you chalk this one up to a learning experience?

Why didn't you have fuel filters with you in case you get a bad load of fuel some place??? I always have two spare sets of filters for the main engine and the generator.

One reason for carrying spare filters is you never know what filters a shop (Speedco or anyone else) is going to put on your engine. I started this after finding that their cross referenced filters don't always have the same micron rating as the OEM filters.

And, it seems most shops I've been at, even if they have the right micron rating, don't have the filter that uses the clear bowl to see if you have water or contamination. Take your own filters. And I carry a spare clear bowl in case they crack it taking it off of the filter during the change. Yes, it might be their responsibility since they broke it, but if there isn't one available within a hundred miles, then you're going to sit their and wait for one.

Carry and take your own filters whether you go to Speedco or someplace else.

Interesting on the air pressure check, I've never been charged for it. I might still be there refusing to pay the "up" charges.

My first time at this, first service on my new to us DP. I will heed your advice, and just wanted to warn others in my area there are likely better choices.

Speedco Specializes in semi-trucks so they don't carry a lot of RV parts. I had my oil done at one last time and I called ahead and they said they did not keep many RV filters in stock and didn't have mine. So I went to Freightliner and got one and brought it with me. I didn't have the fuel filters done at that time, but if I were going to I would have probably brought them along too.

I wish they would have been more up front on the up charges and lack of part. Live and learn I guess!

The water separator used on many FL chassis is not as common as other filters and there are some variations that fit the WS but don't have the correct electrical connections. They tell me that the FL installed water separator is also used on many Volvo trucks.

That being said, I always carry spare WS filters as well as a spare plastic bowl.

I have used Speedco at many different locations many times and never had a problem, in fact they are my go to oil change/service place. They have always had the main fuel and oil filters and I bring my water separator filter as they have never had it in stock. They let me watch the entire operation and I have always been pleased. Too bad you had a bad experience. I personally would never take someone else's opinion on a part number that I had not verified for myself. Live and learn.

Mike recommended that one acquire additional filters and a belt and that they be shrink wrapped to protect them, so they are. Currently my plan is to make a trip through Gaffney in the springtime and get the annual taken care of.

I just used Speedco in Denver last week. This was the first time I used them and I think it went well. They don't do a lot of RVs as they had some difficulty figuring out access to the filters, and once they did, they didn't have the fuel or air filters in stock which kind of throws them a curve because they are included in price (at least the fuel filters). I got the oil and oil filters changed anyway. They gave me a $20 discount and the filter numbers and asked me to call in a couple of days before with the numbers next time and they will make sure they have them. It was under $300 for T5 blend, oil filters and oil analysis.

PS - Camping World claimed it was completely serviced when they took it in trade and they had their sticker in the window for the oil change when we bought it. Good thing I never believe a word they say - that oil had some mileage on it and I suspect the only thing Camping World did was put the sticker on.

I been at SPEEDCO many times, they always had all 3 filters in stock from Fleetgard or Baldwin , but I also carry 2 sets of filters,which I rotate. They install my fuel filters and they give me new ones.

Smart choice. The folks in Gaffney will take good care of your chassis. We used them many times over the 8 years we owned a coach on a FL chassis.
