Blue Ridge Parkway/skyline drive

Meadows of Dan is an exceptional nice park. full hookups, big rig friendly with plenty of space.

as an alternate to ugh I-95 I would suggest I-81 which is right next to the BRP,etc.
take a short side trip up on top till you get sick and tired of going 35 mph.

I've travelled the Skyline Drive once and sections of the BRP several times, at different times. Always in a car, usually a small car (sport sedan back then). I see the route as an ideal motorcycle tour.

Certainly negotiable in a motorhome, I just wouldn't do it as a RV trip, because that just makes the driving and parking more work than it needs to be. As a camping trip, I would tent camp.

The Wally's in Roanoke is not all that close to the Parkway, however. I'd highly recommend springing for the $16 overnight fee at one of the no-hookup campgrounds right along the parkway instead.

As others have pointed out, both the BRP and the SD are slow drives. Both would be closed entirely for snow, but this is not likely in April. Stop often and enjoy the views.

The Walmart at Roanoke is right almost on the parkway. You can see it from the parkway, just exit off Rt 220 South get in the left lane & it is on left behind the car dealerships. Huge parking lot do not know about overnight RV parking. It is a newer Walmart been open about 6-8 months or so. There is a private campground at Rt 58 business west just off the Parkway at Meadows of Dan, VA (Gas too but small town prices) Nancy's Fudge just east of the parkway as well. Meadows of Dan is very close to Marbys Mill.

Do you use the New Math? 30mph for 150 miles should be 5 hr. without stopping. I would bet on a few stops also. We have done it a couple of times.

Check here for closures: http://maps.nps.gov/blri/road-closures/ before committing. While most of the current closures are for weather, the long one north of Asheville is for roadbed repairs, and will be in effect for several more months. It requires a loonnggg detour on surface roads. You won't be able to access Craggy Gardens, one of the prettier spots on this end of the P'way.

Darn, that brew trail sounds like fun but I've recently realized that all the little symptoms I've been experiencing were gluten intolerance so beer is now out (big bummer!) Something we would have enjoyed....

We will slow it down and take more time...provided the nasty weather
stays away.

I live about 5 miles from the junction between the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway, so I vote "GO!" While I have drive the Drive many, many times I have only driven the Parkway in bits and pieces accounting for about 1/3 of it. I grew up tent camping at Sherando Lake (a few miles off of the Parkway) and there's a lot of great stuff in the area near the juncture (check out the http://brewridgetrail.com/ Brew Ridge trail if you are interested).

My #1 piece of advice is to take your time...don't calculate your travel time based on 45 mph, you will miss seeing amazing places like this one!
