Ride defensive and always expepect the unexpected, ride with the thought that no one is seeing you, most drivers are not aware of you and they do not see you, do not expect drivers to do what they are supposed to do or not do what they should, think ahead for them, it is much like ridding in the states.
Pay attention to the topes and potholes, in the cities be careful when making right turns, some drivers do not even look right at all, they are interested in getting infront of the on-comming traffic, to avoid this stay towards the middle of the lane rather than the far right, that way you partially block the lane, they will still try to get ahead of you, a lot of Mexican drivers have a "yo primero" (me first) attitude, with the women being the worst, they fly arround corners and the topes are yust an inconvenience, they do not pay for the car, huby or insurance does that.
The Mexican drivers have what my dad called the "cow" mentality, as they are passing they will drift into your lane not much just enough that you need to move over a bit or slow down so that they do not hit you, and they get all huffy if you honk at them.
Be alert, be safe and enjoy your stay in Mexico.
