Bringing a motorcycle or not to Mexico?

We are planning a trip to Mexico and wonder if I should bring the motorcycle or not. We will be traveling with a tour caravan and will have 3 to 4 days stops here and there on route to Mexico city, then one week to Ixtapa, one month in Puerto Valarta.

How is it to drive on the country side, then in Ixtapa and PV on a motorcycle? I have a 250, 2 person scooter. I will not drive in the town of Mexico for sure.

Is it worth it, should I ride the town buses instead, or take a taxi once in a while or rent a car once in a while?

Thanks.

At least that is what I have seen.

I drove in Miami and New Orleans downtown and other USA cities with the MC without any fear, of course you have to keep a close eye around you all the time.

I checked Google earth and saw many small scooters riding on the side of the road in Mexico.

With a MC, you can explore a lot, stop here and there for lunch, or beach or shop and it's cheap on gas. You will go places where no one venture. I might just bring it and if I see any problem, decide to take the bus instead.

The bumps on the road might be a problem with the MC on the back of the Motorhome, I just hope I don't damage the support or the RV.
  • I would never drive a MC in the cities. Far too dangerous. Besides using the busses is fun! Taxis are cheap.

  • How is the traffic in those towns? How are car drivers with motorcycle?
  • In Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and PV there are plenty of buses and taxi's. If boondocking somewhere remote your mc would be handy, but not totally necessary. There are enough locals to provide anything you might need!
