Burmis, Alberta Weigh Station

We are currently at the campground in Waterton Park, AB. I was planning on returning to the US via AB 6, AB 3, and AB 95; crossing the border at the Eastport crossing. (Our home is near Seattle.)

I am concerned about the "Port of Entry/Permanent Weigh Station" at Burmis, AB. I am towing a 36-foot 5th-wheel with a 3/4 ton diesel, and am a "few" hundred pounds over the payload of the truck. Obviously, I don't want to be weighed at Burmis.

Online resources say that the weigh station people have the authority to weigh an RV, but that is not really part of their mission.

I would like to hear from someone who is very familiar with this provincial crossing, and can tell me what to expect.

Crossing the "border" between AB & BC is like crossing the "border" between Washington & Idaho. If you don't see the sign or your GPS doesn't register the event you are likely to miss the event totally.

I used to holiday in Sandpoint. You should make a stop at the Panhandler for a slice of tallllllllllllllllllll lemon meringue pie. Phone ahead the day before.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the lemon meringue pie.

Burmis is no where near the Canada/US border. There is no Port of Entry at Burmis. There is a Province of Alberta weigh station at Burmis however the only vehicles required to report are commercial vehicles. If you have a "weight" issue the only way that issue will arise is if you are pulled over for some other reason by the authorities. One reason for pulling a rig over is an "obvious" weight capacity issue.

You are correct that it is not a Canada/US border crossing. That is why I referred to it as a "provincial crossing"; i.e., crossing from the province of Alberta to British Columbia.

FYI: My 2015 edition of the Rand McNally "Motor Carrier's Road Atlas" refers to Burmis as a "Port of Entry/Permanent Weigh/Inspection Station".

    Thanks for your response.
