Buying a Canadian RV to title in US?

With the favorable exchange rate we re looking at several class DP in BC.

Has anyone purchased one and had to title and register in the us?

Did you use a finance company to purchase? Just thinking Bank of the West might have an issue with this?

Can a CDN register in the US without transferring the title?

Thanks!

I'm in Mexico now, but will be back in the US this weekend. I'll see if I saved that information.
  • Has anyone purchased a class A that was already in the US?

If the seller has the title, the AZ DMV says just bring it down and they will re-title and register with all parties present in person. I am thinking that can avoid all the typical border process (?).

What was the name of you broker you used? I would love to talk to them.
  • I bought my former MH in Canada, and used a broker. He together with the RV dealer took care of all the paperwork. He drove it through the border crossing with me, and we were able to handle the paperwork from the window of the MH without going "inside". With this process, we were able to avoid paying the GST and avoided the refund process. I'm not sure if that process currently still exists. I did acquire a WA State temporary transport permit to drive the MH home.

Also required was a letter from the RV manufacturer stating that the MH complied with US DOT standards, the odometer/speedometer needed to be changed from kilometers to miles, and the propane system needed to be inspected and certified.

We paid cash so the complexities of financing were not an issue.

For the import, as long as the unit is built to RVIA standards, not CSA standards, there shouldn't be much of an issue.

On the purchase and finance it might be another story though, you'll be stuck in a catch 22. You need the banks money to buy, but they won't be able to register a lien against it until after it's imported and titled in your home state.
