- profdant139Explorer IIWhere do you want to cross the Sierras -- on 120 or at Tahoe? 120 (Tioga Pass) will probably open by sometime in June.
In either event, if you take 6 to 395, there is a cutoff at Benton (120) that goes across to 395. It's very pretty, and not a bad road -- I have done it twice with my trailer. Faster, I think, than taking 6 all the way to Bishop and then coming back up north on 395 to Lee Vining. - pauljExplorer II266 is flat and straight. 166 starts out the same, but crosses the White Mtns (below the Bristlecone Forests) on an old wagon route - following a winding dry stream valley, often crossing the stream bed without bridge or culvert. That means lots of curves and dips. I'm sure local ranchers drive it with the horse trailers all the time, but an RV driver might not like it.
US6 would be a better crossing the US395 to US95
