Turning around.....Hahahaha
VERY LIMITED option to do that.
I-15 major route from High Desert to Inland Empire
I know of couple of routes.......but only if you have truck/off road.
138 will be packed going East towards Hesperia. Closed going West.
Nightmare scenario.....100's of vehicles trapped and wind swept fire. - coolbreeze01ExplorerDangerous and stupid drivers on I15 today. Those with any brains kept moving. Sad for those that couldn't get around the idiots and burned up.
- cruiserjsExplorerTHEY BURNED BECAUSE OF OVERHEATING WHILE IDLING. Initial stoppage probably was due tp smoke aetc. as the fire jumped the freeway. FolksSHOULD know to shut offthe engine when stopped in such high temps!!

- Roy_LynneExplorerIf heading west folks could take 247 out of Barstow and backtrack to Yucca Valley and then on to the 10. Better than just sitting. Heading east, one could take 62 to 95. There are ways around that don't required 4 wheel drives.
- It looks like the road (I-15) is open today, although Caltrans says southbound is reduced to 4 lanes at Hesperia because of the fire.

Barstow is 53 miles north of where this fire happen.
LOTS of options when you are that far away. :S - aerbus32Explorer IIIn the unlikely event you ever find yourself having to go around Cajon Pass, AND YOU ARE IN A PASSENGER CAR, NOT AN RV, from San Bernardino, head up to Crestline, then down past Silverwood Lake into Hesperia. Twice in the last year I have had to take this route due to accidents that severely slowed/stopped the traffic flow.
As far as some of the ridiculous opinions about why the cars caught on fire . . .
