Calif. travel

We will be leaving Morro bay on Aug. 2, 2014. Have a 36" class A motor-home towing a car. Need to get to Eureka, Ca.
Don't really want to go thru San Francisco. Any thoughts?
  • I would take the I 5 it goes through Sacramento but that's better then the bay area.
  • If miles or time aren't a concern you could take 46 to 41 and intersect with the 5 at Kettleman City. Then you could cut over to the 101 by taking 20 through Clearlake or 299 at Redding. That way you would bypass the whole bay area.

X2! I take this route twice a year comming from northern calif. It is a RV easy route. A second choice would be to take 101 to Gilroy and then 152 over to I-5, then to hwy. 20.

This is the best way. Boring but worth the BA workaround. You'll get your sights in once you head North of Willits.

  • There aren't any good routes, just bad and horrible. Sunday morning is the easiest time to travel thu the bay area. Try to avoid the timing of any sport events, baseball, racing, etc. Good luck!

  • A bit out of the way but depending on how you/passengers feel about bridges, taking the 101-880-80-37 takes your over a much shorter bridge than the Richmond/Rafael bridge. My brother regularly goes from SoCal to Sonoma this route. Depending on time of day the traffic along any of the routes can be heavy.

That is a very do able route, I just did it on return from Eureka.

    Good Luck
