The road is fine and if you're comfortable driving your motorhome it's a fun drive. I recommend going from north to south because most of the turnouts are on the ocean side of the road. You'll want to be able to stop to let cars pass as well as stop to enjoy the view. I have a 35' DP and I tow a Dodge Dakota and I've done the North to South route several times without a problem and with nothing but fun and great views. I can't imagine 5 more feet is going to cause you to fall off the cliff.
Now having said this, if you are afraid of heights or are not comfortable in your motorhome on two lane windy roads then stick to the interstate. If California thought the road was too dangerous for motorhomes than the road would be restricted from all large vehicles. But it's only restricted to motorhomes over 45 feet. You'll be fine.
