clinging on to a publication that is obviously defunct and is increasingly out of date
Wooooow - that is some post Tony! And then the extensive list of camping areas in which not one of them even mentions which state they are in - nor a town - nor a phone number - or website - or email??? Of what use is all of this? How do you contact them to find out if they are open and to get explicit instruction to their location (yes I know they give Lat Lon but any help many of us can get can be useful).
The Church book is certainly out of date - but it by no means obsolete. There is still a great deal of useful information in there and as I have mentioned countless times on this forum they do have the updates to the book on their website. What it takes for the book to be up to date is for folks to email the Churches with the latest info and they post it on their updates on their website.
There are countless ways to learn of places to stay all over Mexico and I have mentioned several of them above. We use them all as they all have some use. I really don't see any reason for anyone on this forum to be insulting others and the sources they use to get their info - not from anyone? That is just pointless. We use them all. They all have their uses.
For years and years I have kept my own files of what I learn from all of these sources as well as this forum. I keep adding to the file as the information becomes available. Every source has been of use to us. And to tell the truth I personally don't find a lot of use for ioverlander since the info comes for visitors and many of them provide very little. Perhaps if ioverlander had some sort of form for folks to fill out where they include things like city, state, phone, internet, and a whole lot of other stuff that could be of use?
