Campground

Mar Rosa may be one of the most expensive Mazatlán RV Parks but it is on the beach and within easy walking distance of all Mazatlan's bars and restaurants. Mar Rosa's on-site manager Maleno speaks excellent English and will help you get settled. Be sure to pick up a copy of the Pacific Pearl (newspaper with many great deals) in the office.

By all means, choose Mar Rosa. Rates are based on proximity to the beach. We always stay a couple rows back. So what if our beach view is blocked by mega motorhomes. These folks are super nice and will probably invite you to the their amazing Super Bowl party.

Pick up the paper in the RV Park office. It has many great ads for local establishments such Twisted Mama's for the best Margaritas you've ever drank and her amazing food.

Left of the park you will find Fat Fish with it's Two for One Rib dinners which are very popular with local Gringos.

I would suggest from Laredo, take the Columbia crossing to the northwest. First night in Saltillo. Second night? There is nothing in Torreon, but there is one about 40 kilometers north near Bermejillo, which is of course our of the way. We stayed there several years ago northbound.

It should be easy to drive from Saltillo to Durango in a day, but again, there is no campground there. Some have stayed at a Pemex in Durango. Durango to Mazatlan should be a great drive on the new toll road. The buses schedule three hours for the trip. When we did the Devil's Backbone Durango to Mazatlan years ago on the old road it was at least six hours, perhaps seven.

I would suggest that you start your own thread asking for routing advise from those that had done at least part of that route recently. DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT Churchs' Traveler's Guide to Mexican Camping.Also, when in Mexico (probably Saltillo) try to pickup a copy of Guia Roji Por Las Carreteras de Mexico. (Better than their Guia Turistica). It also contains scannable codes for smart phones for city maps. I have never seen them available in the USA. Often in the large grocery stores, Office Depot etc in Mexico. There is a large grocery store (HEB? not too far (about 1KM) from the hotel Las Fuentes.

La Senora died about 3 weeks ago. The land had already moved to family members. If you look at properties available beachfront, my opinion is that the land will probably be on the market for a while, if indeed the grandsons choose to sell it.
That being said, front row at Mar Rosa is 500p per day. It MAY have increased January 1, I'm not sure, but I am finding out because we will be there the end of Feb no matter the price. It's the place to be.
However, before I became the "snob" owner of a high end Class A coach....
I ALWAYS stayed at Mar Rosa for the security, location, and all around goodness, and paid far less, under 250p per day, for a smaller rig, VERY close to the water (the same as my distance at home in California from the water) with all the great amenities.

They've had a standing offer for years. Just waiting for mom to pass.

I suspect mar rosa will not last, prime location on the hotel strip.

You might want to look into joining a caravan for your first adventure in Mexico.
The dangers lie in hitting a speed bump on a thoroughfare - there are many! Or after dark, some farm animals will roam onto the highway.
Or low hanging trees or wires.
I'm on a caravan now and we're several thousand miles into Mexico.
The place is great and the joke is on those who live in fear.

Mar Rosa best bet. You're close to everything you'll need, and the bus stops at the entrance when you head down to Centro. It will be open next year, but afterwards is iffy.

Many short term rental deals on apartments, homes and condos for rent here in Mazatlan... Nice furnished place from 350 to 600 usd.. per month.

For what they charge at Mar Rosa for front row , you could rent very nice condo with awesome view..
