For camping in the Hamilton area I would recommend 50 Point conservation area. Nice big sites with full hookups and WIFI and easy access to/from QEW Highway.
Check out their website at www.conservationhamilton.ca and go to 50 Point Cons. Area. There is also a restaurant and marina within the park and easy to walk to.
You can view Toronto across the lake. Phone number for park is 905-643-2103 if you want to ask about vacancies.
Since you will be in Canada for several weeks, I would recommend you use Canadian currency.
If you have a Costco membership, there is a Costco gas station very close and gas is much cheaper (no diesel).
