Carrizozo to Roswell
can anyone tell me how the road is from Carrizozo to Roswell NM? It looks like #380 will go from Carrizozo to Hondo and pick up #70/380 there, then head east over to Roswell.

- When we go to New Mexico, we check the dot sight for up to date on road conditions.
New Mexico road conditions - A few years back the shoulders were very narrow from Carrizozo to Hondo on 380. The road surface was also rougher on that stretch, a lot of repaired sections but nothing to slow you down. It may have been widened recently but I doubt it.
That said, the road poses not real problems and is scenic and worth the drive. Once 380 joines 70 it has a good shoulder you can pull off onto and a less cracked surface.
Lots of history in the region (Billy the Kid, Smokey the Bear, Gen. Pershing).
If you have time turn into Fort Stanton Ft Stanton Link and visit the museum and Merchant Marine grave yard. Sailors from all over the world are buried there. During WWII it was a convalescent hospital for sailors particularly those with lung problems. Some did not survive and there are monuments to British, French, German, etc. etc.
