Chesapeake Bay Bridge Rest Area?

We're headed down to Cape Hatteras from New Jersey and I've decided to break up the trip. We will leave Friday and I drive down near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and I'd like to to spend the night somewhere close and then drive over the bridge in the morning. Does anyone know if there is an overnight rest stop near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge?

I am asking about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Sorry about that, I should have been more clear.

  • I've also spent the night on the CBBT service island about 5 years back. It probably won't work if you have a longer unit because of the tight turn, but it was fine in my 19 footer. IIRC the toll ticket says you have 24 hours to cross, so I'm assuming it's OK with the authorities.

  • You can stay in the rest area for up to 48 hours. We've spent the night there. Even slept well.
  • Hi--we travel that route each year on our way to Florida. Just before the toll plaza on the left hand side of the road is a rest area. We have not stayed overnight, but see all sorts of truck and rvs parked there all the time. We usually spend the night on the right side of the highway where there is a motel with rv parking facilities. The name of the motel is Sunset Beach Motel and it is in Cape Charles, Va. They usually rent out all there spots for the summer season and don't have anything available until after October 1st. Might pay to call them before you make your plans. Safe travels!
