Cincinnati to Williamsburg- place to stop overnight?

We will be driving from Cincinnati, OH to Williamsburg, VA. We are needing a place to park overnight to sleep so we don't have to drive through the night (since we wont arrive at the RV park until the next day and are traveling with young children). This will be our first time traveling via RV so we just don't know what the policies are on parking overnight. I have read that some Walmarts allow overnight parking in their lots. Does anyone know of a particular Walmart, truck stop, or other RV friendly stop that you can recommend about halfway from Cincinnati to Williamsburg?

  • Timing?

If it is winter, there is nothing that says you have to camp. When traveling from a cold place with winterized RV to a warmer destination, I'll stop at a motel that has truck parking.

On that route, I stopped in Charlottesville. I wanted to visit Monticello in the morning, like to get my tourist stops into the early part of the day.
  • If you plan to take I-64 to where it merges with I-81 and then I-64 past Richmond and on to Williamsburg, you will find that in Waynesboro, VA, there is a Walmart, a Home Depot and a Lowe's that might possibly be able to accommodate you, but I would call and speak with the manager to get a pre-approval.

On across Afton Mountain, there are several campgrounds right off the highway outside of Charlottesville. We overnighted at Misty Mountain RV Resort last year. Pull-thrus that were large enough that we didn't have to unhook. Exit 107 off of I-64.

From Charlottesville until you get into Richmond, there is not a lot of anything and that is probably further than you want to drive.

    Overnight RV Parking

A quick look at Google maps shows Charleston WV is about half way. Overnight RV Parking shows 11 places in that area. I have no idea if it's a good idea, having never been there.
  • Possibly I can help. Please provide your route, how fast you plan to drive, and what time you want to stop.
