Confused with the varous toll passes

I refuse to use them. Here in La-La land, the HOV lanes rules vary by the day and the hour. Sure, there are signs posted, but insufficient time to read them while in transit.

On the other hand, I object because I already paid for these roads to be built and paid for them to be kept in repair. If the pols had not stolen the money for their pet projects they wouldn't need the extra tax.

In addition, had the gasoline taxes been tied to volume instead of sales price, the revenue would not have dropped, even considering the mandated MPG increases

Not always an option. Many roads have entry/exit tolls with no attendants. They will snap your plate and send you a bill, and in some cases a fine.

As I have posted before, if you go to the Mass. Ez pass web site, you can get a transponder for free. They bill $20 into your account, and replenish from your card as needed. Ez pass is good for most of the east coast and over to and including Illinois. The I pass they use is compatible with ez pass. Some states give a discount which can be considerable. BTW if you have a trailer then another transponder is needed while pulling. This has worked well for us. It's nice not having to stop for tolls.

In Illinois we have the I-Pass. Those having the I-Pass receive a discount on there tolls. Going on now, they are replacing some exits with I-Pass only, thus if you do not an I-Pass, you have to send the toll road the exit number, time of day, plate number, ETC, and the required toll MONEY. Talk about a confusing system, you have one. I really do not see how local, or even out of state drivers can figure out how this system works, and still stay legal. A universal toll collecting system would be great for all of us who use these toll roads.

If you are not from the areas do not repeat do not get on the plate reader toll roads. It will be a******shoot. In Texas if you use a plate reader toll road once with out of state plates and you are Okay. IN Toronto there is a plate pass toll road that billed me about $20.00 U.S. for an administration fee because I did not have an account. The toll was reasonable the fee was not.
Florida has the SUNPASS and plate readers. The SUNPASS for those not living in Florida is just a little sticker to be placed on a car windshield. Most other Eastern State take EZPASS.

EZPass is probably the most widely used/accepted. I can use my transponder from ME down to VA, and out west to IL, and all states in between.

Regarding Florida, I don't think there's any choice but their SunPass.

Congress has mandated that a system be in place by 2016 that would allow one tag to be used across the entire nation. I'm betting it'll be EZPass.

Beware of delayed billing. I've read horror stories about late fees.

The problem (or blessing) on plate-readers (which Washington uses) is not all them handle out-of-state plates properly. Some simply can't bill out-of-state, some have to be done by hand and some bill in-state with the same number.
