Corvallis to Prineville, OR

We are traveling to Prineville from Corvallis in the next couple of days and have some time to kill. Does anyone have some recommendations for things to see or do?

  • I prefer hwy 22...

Silver Falls State Park is a MUST SEE... do you hike?

Fishermen's Bend Campground (1 mile WEST of Mill City, OR) just the BEST BLM cg in the entire 50 states. We used to host there. Expect to be surprised. They have FHU pull thu's but you should call ahead or make reservations.PHOTOS https://picasaweb.google.com/117253848546820846335/FishermenSBendCampgroundMillCityOregon?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCK2sqPrhguKYGg&feat=directlink

Giovanni Mountain Pizza in Mill City is DESTINATION pizza (the Italian with fresh tomatoes put on just AFTER it comes out of the oven is the way to go.

The view going up the canyon of the Santiam River is quite beautiful toward Detroit Lakes.

LOL I only pass those every time I go to Bend for grocery shopping and I'd FORGOTTEN them!!!!

Also -- add Newberry Caldera (between Sunriver and LaPine).....be brave and drive to the top of Paulina Peak and see both East and Paulina Lake.....2 lakes formed from 1 -- a lava flow "cut" them in two. Both are inside the caldera (similar to Crater Lake - only not as deep)
  • Lava river caves. Lava lands visitor center. High desert museum are just three more
  • Sisters, Oregon (the town, itself is worth the stop)
Smith Rock, north of Redmond.....especially if you like hiking
Peterson Rock Garden, near Redmond .....funky....a man collected rocks for years and built quite a "must see"
Mt. Bachelor.....take Century Drive from Bend to around the mountain
