Covered RV Storage in ALASKA

on our way to Alaska (from Florida)
We want to spend at least 2 years in western Canada and Alaska.
IF we can find suitable / covered storage for the RV we will fly home (FL) for the 'cold' months to return with the migratory birds to Alaska.

Have tried to find storage anywhere in Alaska; so far no luck.

If you have ideas or know of storage facilities in Alaska please let me know.

  • "Just curious, why the fixation on covered storage? Virtually all RVs in Alaska (at dealerships, rental fleets, and privately-owned) are stored outside in the winter just fine. If you want to get exotic, you can pay someone to shrink wrap the RV after you park it for the winter."

...but if the price is right, I'll rent out a hangar for RV storage...:)

As you are finding, covered storage is rare up here, and even rarer to find an available space. One note on the fairgrounds--they use a very large barn, which they pack with RVs. While the space is covered, the building is open on the ends, so it is not heated. You have very tight time frames on when you can park your rig in there, as well as when you have to have your RV removed by.
  • Joe--the RV storage facility that you gave the link for is just a block north of the Dimond Center on E. 81 and a block west of the Old Seward Hwy. But it wasn't the one you used?

There is an RV facility that is not in those yellow pages listings located just south of the Dimond Center. I don't know if it has indoor storage, but it is right on the Old Seward Hwy. at E. 94th. It is called CJL RV Self Storage (phone: 344-1959).
  • This company seems to have two or three different location covered storage RV units, in Anchorage. RV winter storage is used by both residents and lower 48 folks for storage.

I am sure the place I used for two or three years was close to the corner of the Seward Hwy and Diamond Blvd in Anchorage. It was next to a gas station which operated the storage unit.
  • There was a RV-geared indoor only storage lot that opened up in south Anchorage back in 2010 or 2011? I think. It was pricey, but it even had indoor garages with full hookups and venting so that the RV's could be lived in while there.

No idea on the name, or if it was successful and is still open. Heard about it via an article in the Anchorage Daily News.

You could also check with some of the RV dealers or repair facilities in Anchorage. They may know what you are looking for.

Yes, that's what the heading shows, but when you go to their Web sites there's no such facility.

The OP wants inside storage, though - I didn't see any others with that option.

The many years, we lived in the bush of Alaska, if we owned a car, truck or RV, we used a couple of places in the south part of Anchorage but for the life of me, i can't remember the names of them. In Fairbanks we often just would leave a car at the airport parking for the warmer months.
