Craig Co to La Veta

Planning a trip for June, and on one leg of trip we will be traveling from Craig, Colorado down to LaVeta.

I am considering a route down 24 to 27... down through Oak Creek. Then 131 south out of Oak Creek to Wolcot... then turning south again on 24 through Leadville down to Alamosa. (with a couple of hwy changes in there)

How will that be for a 26' bumper tow with a Ram 1500 4x4?

TIA

Your route will work but What is the Question? What is the MISSION?

What a great opportunity to see a lot of Colorado. So many things between Craig and La Veta - few things come to mind - Rifle Falls - Grand Junction - Maroon Bells - Colorado River - Minturn - Camp Hale - Leadville/Quincy's/Turquoise Lake - Collegiates - Browns Canyon - ......................Or you could go a few other ways to see ..............But

With out you asking anything but if the route work - I guess the answer is "Think so" just so many opportunities on that trip.

    Best of Luck,
  • You don't say what your concerns are. Truck can't climb hills? Trailer too long for curves?

You can see my trailer below. It's been all over the US and there hasn't been any place where it couldn't go. I've been on some roads that I wished I wasn't on. I think you're truck and trailer will make it fine.
  • Really no problems along that route. Probably the biggest climb is the three miles from Minturn up past the ghost town of Gilman. There are also a couple of switchbacks getting to the top of Tennessee Pass. But nothing of real consequence. Lots to see all along that route.
