Crazy traffic coming back from Florida

If any of y'all were on I-75 coming north from Tampa and beyond, hope y'all made it home okay. We came home last night from Sarasota Fl to Warner Robins GA. Normally a 7 hour car ride, normally a 8-8.5 hour trailer haul, but yesterday took us 11.5 hours. Got on the road a little late (1100), and by 3 PM, we had gone a whopping 100 miles. Traffic was horrible. Construction, accidents, all the way through Ocala. I think we got into Ocala somewhere around 5 to 6 PM. After Ocala it wasn't bad,.. busy, but not bad.

I would have stopped for the night, but grandkids were anxious to get home, so we pushed through. Saw lots of RV's on the road, so I gotta imagine at least one or two were members here.

Tried to get a pic of a guy towing a trailer with a van. The combo was so tongue heavy, it was a V. Man, talk about unsafe. Sure hope he made it home okay too.

Nice to be home with one more day to recuperate before going back to that four letter word... WORK.

  • We use the Suncoast Parkway from east of Homosassa to Tampa because we winter in the Panhandle off US 98, but it is expensive. With our 4 axles it is $3.25 every few miles or so. We get off at Gunn Rd. I am willing to pay it for the convenience. lizzie
  • As said, this is the last day of the holiday vacation for many that have to go back to school or work tomorrow.
  • Just to update, we just went from Bradenton to Crystal River, I75-I275-FL589-US98. The Suncoast Highway was construction and rough road for the first 15 miles out of Tampa and then smooth sailing after that. I enjoyed the ride. Thanx for the suggestion.
  • We drove north from Ft. Myers on New Year's Eve Day. Fair sailing, saw lots of back up on I-65 in Alabama south of Birmingham, going south. Otherwise roads weren't bad. Saw lotsa of water in Missouri, with 2 lane of I-55 N closed because of flooding. Cape Girardeau also.
