Creel Rv Park

We stayed at the Hotel Villa Mexicana in what looks like it was a great RV Park at one time, for 8 days. They only have electric, sewer and WIFI, no water. There is a new paved highway to Batopilas at the bottom of the canyon, so we took our car and went down and stayed 2 nights. Quite an adventure and great scenery, took 4 hours to go 140 klms. Also did tours in the area and Basaseachic Falls.
We left this morning for Chihuahua thinking of spending a week there to tour the city and area. I let my fuel tank get down to 17 gallons as we were going to stop at Gasolinera Del Fresno and stay at the Rv Park. The signs are on the highway saying the RV Park ahead, quite a surprise when we got there. The RV Park is closed, they are out of diesel, no we can't park for the night to wait for diesel to be delivered. That was another surprise!! Well after one hour they relented and allowed us to stay the night as they were expecting diesel at noon the following day. I guess we won't see the area as there is no where to stay.
This trip is proving it is becoming very difficult to RV in Mexico. But I can't blame them if no one is RVing here.
We will be going to Nuevo Casasa Grandes tommorrow, hope for better luck there

  • When we were there gas was a private service. Someone would drive their pick up truck to Creel with empty 55 gal drums and then set up shop in Batopilas. The fuel usually had rust in it (from the drums). We were there in a rain storm and the entire electrical system browned out until the wires dried out. All the lights dimmed but still worked. The sewer plant was not working as the pipes had been washed out along the river years before. The plant was a mile down stream from the town and raw sewage was sent into the river at the break....... I wonder if that was ever fixed?
  • There still is no Pemex there although there is some one who sells gas by the 20 liter container. You can't buy beer or alcohol in the stores as it is not allowed there. But we were directed to house to get beer, the choice was Tecate or Tecate Light. There is also some one who sells Mescal.
On the way down to Batopilas we had to stop numerous times to clear a path through the rocks on the road the were washed down from the rains. The evening before we left there was quite a rain storm so the following day we had to clear lots of paths to get through as our car is not high clearance.
  • I stayed there a number of years ago. It took all day to travel from Creel to Batopilas on a mostly dirt road. The road down into the Canyon was in terrible shape. Batopilas had no Pemex station.
