- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIWe boondocked close to Denali NP and early the next morning we easily got a site at Riley campground in Denali for our 40' motorhome - without reservations. We spent 5 nights there before moving to Teklanika (reservations) for 5 more nights. There's so much to see in both areas.
- rag-ftwExplorerWe just left Denali Saturday after spending four GREAT days in Teklanika. If you can get reservations that is the best place to stay as it does save you a couple hours of bus riding each day, plus you are out of the "hustle and bustle" that goes on at the park entrance. If you stay in Healy be prepared for major road construction and really slimy mud each day as you go back to the park. I would highly recommend staying inside the park if you can boon dock. The prices are more reasonable and the experience will be more genuine.
Have a great time and enjoy the wilderness experience! - Luke_PorterExplorerYeah, I was staying at Denali and took an over the top flight. I spotted Tek on the way back and wanted to go there. Denali actually gave my money back.
- VeebyesExplorer IIThere is nothing that can equal the experience of staying deep inside the park at Teklaneka.
Save almost 2 hours of bus commuting time every day. - olygeneExplorerI, too, recommend Riley Creek inside the park. However, if you have a Class A, you should definitely reserve a site because Riley Creek has few spots long enough for an A. I believe there were only 20 sites out of 100+ that were long enough for a Class A. Also, Riley Creek has 3 loops--try the first loop as the road is finished and closer to the mercantile/showers. Also, the shuttle bus stops right at the mercantile and is convenient to the first loop.

We have stayed at "Denali RV Park & Motel". It is at Mile 245.1 on the Parks Hwy which is about 6 or 7 miles north of Healy. We stayed there in 2009 and 2013.
We stayed there and it is not a bad park though this year the construction starts right at their front door so the noise of trucks braking is more than usual. The water is orange (lots of minerals) so use a filter on it. - jnharleyExplorerCantwell is not that great. In my opinion Alaska has few good campgrounds. The best one we have stayed in is Williwaw USFS Campground and it had no hook ups. We have a 5 night stay planned at Riley Camoground in Denali. Again, no hook ups.
- EEWallyExplorerAfter coming out of the Denali Highway from east to west, we stayed at the Cantwell park. It was fine. Then it was 1 night in Riley campground and the required 3 nights at Teklanika, the staging point for our bus tours further into the park.
I think we'd use this strategy again. - lonnie4801ExplorerWe have stayed at "Denali RV Park & Motel". It is at Mile 245.1 on the Parks Hwy which is about 6 or 7 miles north of Healy. We stayed there in 2009 and 2013.
Following is the 2013 entry in my Trip Log: "Gravel pad - back-in - 30 amp, water, sewer, picnic table, WiFi (FREE), cable (FREE – 12 channels) - Good Sam Park - Cost $38.52 per night – Regular site price was $40.00 + tax, GS was $36.00 + tax". - explorenorthExplorerThe top choice for easy access to everything is Riley Creek, right at the park gates.
