If you register using your name and you ever plan to go to Mexico again they will have your info. There are ways around it but you cannot bring a second RV in until the previous has been removed properly from the records. These things do expire and/or you can use another name. But it won't be easy.

On the other hand we do know people who have brought RVs in and left them down there permanently but are still able to enter with a truck camper. No problem.

We have a very recent 10 year permit so will be still be able to use that until it expires?

Deposit for MOTORIZED vehicles only. Motorcycles over 499 cc. Trailer MAY be noted on TIP. Surrender TIP minus the listed trailer in tow and you may have really bad issues with Aduana. Been this way for many years. RV with tode. Tode limited to 180-days, and whether RV will get 10 year permit with tode has been hit or miss.

If you have a 10 year permit that has not been canceled then they still show your name etc. as having a permit for the 10 years. If you sell the RV or leave it in Mexico you cannot cross into Mexico with another RV until the original is canceled. If you want to bring in another RV you need to use another name or some other way of confusing the system - but don't get caught. If you have no intention of ever taking another vehicle into Mexico then there isn't much they can do - maybe.

Passed through several retenes se SSP where both migratorio and Import permit data was gone over with a fine tooth comb. Halogram serial number in agreement with TIP. VIN vehicle plate number plus USA state VIN number all had to agree. They all used a laptop computer. Maybe connected to DF database via TelCel.

This is where I follow the law meticulously. The feds will sieze a vehicle and cintents and it will be towed to a corralon federal. Kiss it goodbye. This is for infracciones delito mayor not minor discrepencies. Driving with a grossly expired TIP is unwise. Hacienda is very reluctant to release a mitor vehicle from a corralon federal even if the owner gets an abogato and even secures a court amparo. The penalties for intentional infracciones are harsh.

Remember-at least in the US, when you renew your passport, you get a new number. The 10 year permit is tied to your passport, and number. So, as in our case, the motorhome was sold, we tried all the official ways to get the permit cancelled, without any success. Had to renew passports, and voila! No past history of our permit, because it was a new passport.

Someone, possibly Tequila published this information, and a website where this information could be checked by passport number. Don't know if this website still exists, or is current, but here is the link I used:

Is there an official policy to cover the situation where a MH has a 10-year TIP and leaves Mexico without cancelling the TIP (maybe because intending to return), but then the MH is sold with the TIP not having been cancelled.

Any problems for the new owner seeking to enter Mexico??

Tony Lee: I left Mexico without cancelling my 10 year permit and then trued to have then cancel@ KM21. I had the papers and an intact sticker. Impossible as they need the vehicle at the border. I found information online and followed the procedure. I had a notarized copy of the bill of sale and all the paperwork. We were in Mexico and I used Estafeta one day service. Was about $30.00. The courier driver called me the next day. They would not accept the parcel as it had an old address. They had moved to a different office in the same building and they are not allowed to open mis-addressed mail!! Parcel was returned and I changed the address. Estafeta was super nice and delivered it again but for a small fee. It was spring and we headed back to Canada. 6 weeks had passed and I had not heard from them. The next day I had a letter from them. In Spanish of course. They wanted some sort of paper from our attorney general stating that the document is real. I called Mexico. They are in a room with 100's of bad phones. Could hardly hear them. Finally they agreed that all I needed was a copy of the new owners registration and a letter from heir DMV stating that the copy is real!!! I sent the whole package vie DHL from Canada IIRC it cost about $75.00. About 6 weeks later they sent me fancy certificate that stated my permit was cancelled. What an ordeal !! I do not think a new owner could enter with a vehicle that has a non expired permit. But maybe because it is a different passport it would be OK.
As for MexW's comments on driving a vehicle with an expired or even no permit: A few years ago an AZ resident was going to a wedding in Sonora. He crossed at Douglas. BUT he drove off that highway to the wedding. No longer in the free zone. He was stopped and they seized his vehicle for no permit. Never was returned.

I had been thinking of going to Mexico instead of USA, but all this bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo is making me re-think that.

Like everything else on rv.net, how many people have traveled to Mexico with their rvs without any issues with permits, crossings, papers, transito, etc.

We only hear the negative.
