Diesel Fuel in Newfoundland Towns

Hi,

We are currently in Twillingate and we have had no problem finding diesel fuel. We have been up the West coast and are now headed for St. John's. Even most small towns have a diesel pump.

All the places OP asked about are on or near main highways - there is always diesel available in these towns

Well there are those parts of Canada where you can only travel by canoe or dog team.

In those areas there's obviously no diesel available. Just oil from boiling whale blubber or pine sap.

You can obtain diesel in all the places you mentioned.

Last summer we circled the whole province, back roads etc. for 2 months and always found diesel, just fill every time you come to a pump.

Don't even worry about it.

We're in Newfoundland now. Arrived in Port Aux Basques two weeks ago and we've in St Barbe headed to St Anthony tomorrow. We've had no problems finding diesel fuel and don't think you will either. In fact we just returned from a short trip over to Labrador for a couple of days and had no problems finding fuel there either , but we only went as far as Red Bay. We'll be here for a couple of months if not more traveling, maybe will see you around. Haven't seen anyone else here from "Texas".

Ok, I have to say something here....a guy that has never been to Newfoundland, comes on this forum, to ask a perfectly legitimate question, regarding diesel fuel availability, and then gets some answers that make him out to be an idiot for having to ask???????...... ...I thought the whole reason for this forums existence is to be able to ask questions of helpful others that have been there done that, is it not??.....some people need to get out & about more, me thinks.......

Don't know about Rocky Harbour but had no trouble finding diesel in any of those places in 2007.

That's not true, at least not in Canada. Untaxed coloured (dyed) diesel fuel is only allowed on commercial vessels in Canada, pleasure boats must use taxed fuel. Most places only sell taxed fuel, then the qualified purchasers file for a rebate of the road tax.

The use of off road gas or diesel in a non-commercial vessel will land you in a heap of trouble, and usually a VERY large fine.

Also, because of the extremely small (relative to total sales) the refineries only produce ULS diesel, then lubricity additives as well as dye is added to the fuel sold for heating or off road use.

In this area even the home heating oil is ULS diesel.
