Direct TV in Canada

Heading to Quebec in a few weeks. I'm wondering if I will be able to get Direct TV while there. Does anyone know what the numbers are?

Thanks
  • Otterlynx, I assume that you are referring to the Winegard auto dish on your RV roof.

I've been with Shaw over the years and used a tripod to get reception, a couple of years ago I installed a Winegard dish on the RV roof. I was concerned that Shaw would eventually "range" their sats so that you couldn't receive in the US (the 3rd new sat is ranged, but duplicates most of the stuff on the other 2 sats). I asked around if I could convert the Winegard from Shaw to a US service and got the answer from a Winegard tech that it could not be converted. I assume the same would apply to Bell, since the services are similar.

I would contact Winegard for a confirmation. Sorry!
  • We have a Bell dish and would like to switch to Shaw satellite - we have a Winegard Traveler receiver. Does anyone know if this is possible?

    Thanks

  • Chilly-in-Vermont, your web link was perfect. I was able to point the cube in the right direction and had a connection in a very short time. Thanks for the link. Others should use it when going to Canada.
  • My not work further north. I know US satelite services really footprint their signal. Run into it all the time in Mexico, Canadians are happily watching Canadian satelite TV while the Americans are out of luck. We wtached the superbowl last spring in southern Mexico, but on Canadian TV.
  • This works well for our needs. http://www.satsig.net/maps/satellite-tv-dish-pointing-canada.htm
  • We've gotten a DIRECT TV signal on Vancouver Island in the west and on PEI and Nova Scotia in the east, as well as points in betweeen.
With Direct TV (Possibly with DISH as well) if you cannot get HD signals, try "All Channels" on your Preferences. The non-HD signal is not as picky. That also works during bad weather.
Many RV parks, including those in Canada list the proper settings for satellite.

  • When we were in Canada I used the zip code for just over the boarder in US. Looked on Directs web page for settings.
  • We have been to Quebec 3 times. Using a dome on one trip and a satellite dish on the other two, we got DirecTV every times. The numbers are the same as in the US.
