Insurance is required to drive in US....so would imagine folks crossing either border (North/South) would need Insurance

In AZ a vehicle can not be licensed / plated without Insurance. If the Insurance expires the state will send a notice demanding proof of insurance or the plates will be pulled all within a month.

I recently purchased a Jeep from a private party in Arizona and I did not have to provide proof of insurance when I licensed the Jeep.

You should get a letter in the mail asking for proof. If not they screwed up, plain and simple!
