the later ferries get to pei close to dark, nice big walmart in Charlottetown, lots of campers there usually, 30-45 minutes from the ferry
You can do lots better than that!!! If you're thinking places to park/camp just use your eyes. & there is a visitors center very shortly after you leave the ferry where staff will help and give you a visitors guide.
I'm not a beach person, but I liked them when I was 15. So, my adult favs: going towards Charlottetown, the Orwell Corner historic village and museum and the Sir Andrew MacPhail Homestead, (kids, Chuckwagon eatery and playground), the Charlottetown Farmer's Market {go with empty freezer and empty tummy, Wed. or Sat.} Panmure Island, Strathgartney cg. with walks. Look at map for walks and scenic roads (prov. map)., New Glasgow Lobster Suppers for food and scenery. Lots of good places to eat too. & tours of Charlottetown too. Cape Bear Lighthouse all the way east along the shore road to the end of pave and hang a right per signs. Point Prim Lighthouse near Eldon, the one and only round lighthouse constructed of bricks, not to mention Wood Islands Lighthouse right when you get off the ferry (hang a right before you leave the ferry peninsula.) ---- course I'm forgetting quite a few lighthouses as I write.
