Dover, DE to Sault Ste. Marie, MI

I will be travelling from Dover, Delaware to Sault Ste. Marie, MI next fall. I would like to follow the paths Interstates 70, 76, 90 and 75 BUT I would like to do this without actually driving on those highways but staying on state highways which basically parallel this general track.

Any suggested roads to travel while avoiding any steep inclines, downhill switchbacks and narrow two line county roads? Or, perhaps this type of travel is no longer possible...

    In google maps turn on terrain mode - that shows the mountains clearly. There is a band of old mountains across the middle of Penn. Once past that the going is pretty flat. US30 Lincoln Hwy will take into Ohio.
