downhill to Seneca Rocks in WVa
should i consider going down this hill in first? I am towing a 5000 lb travel trailer behind a Chevy Trailblazer 5.3 v8 rated at 6200, with electric brakes on trailer.

Are you talking about US33 from the east or west or 28/55 coming south from Petersburg? This is mountainous country. I don't own a TT but I would think that if a downward grade were more than 5%, I would slow down to 20-25mph and drop it into second. I would not do 1st unless you are going very slow. Probably 10 mph or less.
