I've always taken 58, 395, 15, 210, 10. Even with the rare light traffic days I really don't like driving through the LA area especially towing. This route is far more enjoyable.
Good route, except I turn off 395 at Adelante then go east which will drop you in just above Palm Springs. less traffic and more desert scenery to enjoy.
Looked at that route but wasn't sure if 18, 247 and 62 were fairly easy fast routes. Any slow areas?
Just a few miles when you go through town with a few signals but it is not traffic congestion. - MarkTwainExplorer

Take highway 18 off of 395 going east. Hwy. 18 will turn into Hwy. 247. Just continue and you end up on I-10. Go east for a few miles to Palm Springs.
Hwy. 18 takes you through some little towns for a few miles but no problems towing my 34' 5th wheel. Once you get onto hwy. 247 it is a good 2 lane country road that connects you to Hwy. 62. Turn right at Hwy. 62 until you connect with I-10. - mileshuffExplorer

We like "A county RV" park. All pull throughs, cement pads and well maintained. - MarkTwainExplorer

Which is the best way to drive from Bakersfield to Palm Springs with not a lot of traffic. We will be leaving from B C tomorrow.
" Best " is rather subjective .... I'd take highway 58 east to 395. 395 South to 15 and down to 10 east. Keeps you out of the worst of the LA basin. That is the way we tend to go .
I agree with the suggested route. I live in Bakersfield and just returned from a stay in Palm Springs.
From Bakersfield to Palm Springs I went south on I-5 to 210 east to I-10. Lots of traffic. On the return drive from Palm Springs to Bakersfield, and dove I-10 to 215 to 395 to 58 to Bakersfield. Much, much less traffic and would recommend that route. - 1492ModeratorMoved from Forum Technical Support.
- Tom_BarbExplorerOur two favorites routes: I-5 to Gorman east on 138 thru Lancaster -Palmdale, and llano change to 18 into Victorville and on to Lucerne Valley, where you change to 247 into Palm Springs.
Or Bakersfield, Barstow, Needles, Blyth. That is the fastest. I-5 to I-10 east.
