Johny thanks....I have been trying to think sitting here, LOL
Farmers fields...no no no! Having sat on the tractor ,I would never want anyone on my land. I know not everyone is destructive but I have seen damage left by
"such nice people"
I guess it also depends on the type of RV. A truck camper, which I camped in years ago or a van conversion could slip in some places and not be noticed but a large MH or TT could not be unnoticed.
Also if it was a one night stop I guess a truck stop or parking lot might work. It is when you want to stay a few days it would be hard to find somewhere that you could " set up" camp.
I should say though...our lovely couple next door who travelled throughout the US every winter for over 50 years before illness stopped them say they have had many a free night, some because they just had to stop.
......They stopped one night in a city park MH, closed up tight for the night and started to cook dinner. A police officer knocked on the door and asked what they were doing. Saying they could not find a campground they needed to stop. The officer went in, had dinner and a beer then proceeded to tell them that it was a rather rough area to be in and they would be broke into and likely harmed, so he took them to a safer place, another park. He then said he would keep an eye on them throughout the night. He had breakfast with them after his shift.
......MH, in a cemetry. They were lost and too tired to go on
......Stopping in at a park after check in closed and you just pick an empty spot and register in the morning. Only they left before opening, therefore free.
......They stopped at a place, campground on the ocean front and they were full. They ended up parking their TC next door on a building site (condominiums ) at the far end but on the beach. They walked into the campground every day and used the showers, laundry all amenities and even brought jugs of water back when needed. The girl at the gate just assumed they were registered campers. When someone asked about them at the construction site they said they were part of the crew, with Ontario plates, LOL
I guess it can be done!
