Expired TIP

The OP is going back to Nogales. He can turn in his TIP and just turn around and get another. Nothing illegal about that. But if he turns in his FMM and immediately asks for another that could be a problem. Regardless if he wants a TIP or FMM he has to go to Nogales. Neither are available other than at the Frontera. So using his wife's name is of no help. I am not sure that presently the TIP is linked to your passport. It was but that may have changed. Does anyone know if they were able to use their wife's passport in the last 12 months?

If your vehicle is in more than one name, a spouse/partner, you can just get the new TIP in that name, no problem.

The other solution is to get a new passport. The TIP is referenced to your passport number. When you renew it, you get a new number, and can get a new TIP.

Hopefully it won't come to a new passport, but if it means not making a trip, I'd renew mine in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the replies. The vehicle never made it to Mexico . When I return in October I guess I'll find out one way or another. I will let you all know what happens. Hopefully we will be done with this Corona -virus thing by that time.

I returned to the USA/Canada with a still valid 10 year permit. I was going to go the next day and cancel at he border. But the person that bought my unit wanted to go home right away. I went through hell!! I was still in Mexico and had the proper form. I went to a Mexican parcel service and paid for next day delivery. The driver called me from Mexico City. They would not accept the dociment as it was addressed to a woman who wss trnsfered to another area!! privacy issues. The next day I picked up the document. Called and after about an hour got the name of the new person.Resent the document. 2 months later I got a phone call that they needed a copy of the new owner's registration certified by the Secretary of state for the new state. I was lucky that the new owner's wife was a notary and she notarized document from the Registrar of vehicles. I was in Canada and I had to send it DHL. 30 days later I received the cancellation. I do not remember the total cost but I think I could have flown to CDMX for less pesos!!!!

If the vehicle is phisicaly in the USA that is the important isue, the vehicle is out side the Mexican territory so the TIP expiring will not be a problem, on the other hand if the vehicle is in Mexico, that will be a problem.

When you re-enter Mexico, have receits of purchases from the date that the TIP expires and later to prove that the vehicle and you were out of Mexico, fuel receits are great, sprcially for an RV when the paperwork states that you bought 45 gallons or more and the toad only takes 12 to fill up it becomes ovious that your unit was with you, specially when using a debit card or credit card.
