First timer RV to redwood national park

Planning for a RV trip to humboltdt ,next day redwood national and state parks nearby and back to humbolt.

day 1 - Reach humboltd state park afternoon, camping at night
day 2 - start from humbotd state park at 11 AM , reach redwood ( suggestion needed which places/Trailer to cover as we driving an RV)
if we get a campground @ delnorte redwoods ( walkin ) , well and good, otherwise return to humboltd camping spot in evening.

Thats it..

so let me know how is the road conditions from humboltd to del norte state park via redwood national park.

Are RV allowed in this route. where all we can park and have food in restaurants..
Suggest one good hiking for one day redwood NP trip ( with RV parking available)

Please please help..I know its a long post :)
  • I hope you already have reservations at one of the campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. I am guessing that what you mean by redwoods is the state and national park area near Orick. Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is one of the jewels of the state park system. If you can get a spot there, you will not regret it. BTW, your drive from Humboldt SP to Del Norte is not a fast drive at all and road maintenance is normal. At a minimum, do not pass up taking the Nathan Drury Scenic By Way through Prairie Creek. I like it better than the Avenue of the Giants.

For hikes, the Founders Grove is busy and popular in Humboldt SP. A little ways away, up Matolle Rd as the road crosses the Eel River, the Roosevelt grove is another good one. On the road to Albee Creek Campground. When you get to Prairie Creek SP, the Fern Canyon walk is another highlight. You can walk/hike from there to Prairie Creek, about 4 miles one way.
