Flamingo Everglades to WP Franklin North (coe)

We are headed from flamingo Everglades to WP Franklin North (coe) in a couple of days. is it worth taking 25/27 north to lake okeechobee, then cut across on 80 to get to franklin, or should we just take the turnpike. we took 41 on the way south so already been that way. know nothing about 25/27 or 80 so any help is appreciated. also any input on wp franklin would be good.thanks
  • My most memorable (and only) visit to the Everglades was in a car, driving north from US 41 on a two lane road. The speed limit going north was 25MPH and going south it was 35MPH. In the brief time I was out of the car, I saw mosquitos flying away with small dogs in their clutches. :)
  • I would agree, take 27. Going tp costs too much and your going way out of your way. One word of caution, if you leave early morning on a foggy day, that stretch (27) has a reputation just fyi.
  • We take that route from the keys to the COE just east of Labelle, Ortona South Campground. They are good roads an a nice ride thru the country side. Another way you could go if you want to stay on the interstate is to go up to I75. Take I75 around adds about 20 miles to the trip. The campground is on the north side of the water way off hwy 78, so at some point you need to cross over. You can do so at Alva, watch for the signs then go to 78 and head west. If you come in off I75 go across the water way past hwy 80 and exit onto hwy 78 This is exit 143) going east. Follow road signs for hwy 78, as it makes a couple turns. Have a safe trip
