I am not the world's foremost authority on any of this - but we faithfully use our Progressive - until we go to Mexico. The problem in Mexico in many areas is fluctuation. We normally see about 127 volts. But it can go above 132 or below 108 for a split second which will cause the Progressive to shut us down. There is then about a 3 minute delay before power resumes even if the fluctuation was only the slightest blip. In some places this can mean constant shut downs due to slight fluctuation that are not doing harm. After a while we gave up on the Progressive in Mexico - but we still use it at all times in the US. We use a key to turn off the Progressive in Mexico.
So we first use the device I mentioned in the other thread (thread is now closed but can easily be found) - same topic. A basic plug in voltmeter and polarity check device. Not everyone knows how to use a probe type meter or exactly how to check to make sure voltage is on the proper leg and that there is a ground. Sure, anyone can check voltage but you must also check polarity too. When you get into 50amp this can be a bit confusing for some RVers because they do not have the technical knowledge or skill - nor can they be expected to build a special device as I tried to show in the other thread. Some of us have skills and some do not. So a plug type meter and polarity tester is a must. I showed one from Prime Products which is digital and does both voltage and polarity and is a simple plug in - for about $30. I also show where to go to see how to make a dual leg two meter system for 50amp if any one cares.
Now we use a voltage regulator . . . http://www.isbmex.com/PDF/DOMESTICOS.pdf http://www.isbmex.com/PDF/DOMESTICOS.pdf . . . which costs a few bucks more than some might want to spend ($200 - $300 - about the same as a Progressive but not for the same purpose) and I cannot promise that it works as advertised. So far it seems to have worked for us over the past few years. Others on this forum have used them and like them too. It is similar to the Hughes but claims to regulate both high and low voltage. Corrector de Voltaje 4kva should work for what we need in Mexico. We have only been able to find them in Mexico. Most Ferreterias can order but few carry in stock. Saw one on ebay where someone wanted a ridiculous price - way high - probably because they are hard to find in the US. More can be found on the isbmex website.
I do not know about the legal aspects of this Freedom Shore incident. To me it is a good will and maybe a moral issue. If I owned the RV park I would probably not want to pay - but if I consider the ramifications of the number of customers that could be lost I would see it as a good will issue and try to come to some understanding with the customer.
